How we
operate
Firstly, we would like to thank you for entrusting us with your pet’s well-being. We are committed to providing you and your pet with the highest level of care and service. To ensure that our interactions remain as smooth and pleasant as possible, we kindly ask that you take a moment to familiarise yourself with how we operate.
By registering your pet with Tasman Vets, or requesting any veterinary treatment or services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, which form part of our contract.
Settlement terms
We kindly ask that all payments be made in full at the time of consultation, surgery, or when purchasing pet food or supplies. Tasman Vets offers full EFTPOS facilities and accepts all NZ Major credit cards, Afterpay, Q Cards, and cash.
If you are unable to make payment at the time of your visit, we ask that you contact our Practice Manager prior to your appointment to discuss alternative arrangements.
Estimates of treatment costs
We are happy to provide you with a written estimate of the anticipated cost for a course of treatment.
Please note that this is not a quote, and that any estimate provided is an approximation only. Every patient and treatment is unique, and unforeseen circumstances may affect the final cost.
Pet health insurance
We understand that veterinary care can be expensive, and while we strive to keep our fees fair and reasonable, having pet insurance can provide invaluable peace of mind if your pet becomes unwell or is involved in an accident. We highly recommend that all pet owners consider obtaining pet insurance to help cover unexpected veterinary costs.
If you do have pet insurance, that’s amazing!!! Please note that payment for your pet’s treatment is your responsibility at the time of service. You will then be able to submit a claim to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
After hours services
After-hours triage services are provided through our partnership with VetChat. When the clinic is closed, calls to the main clinic number will be automatically redirected to VetChat. An automated message will inform you of a $59 NZD fee for this service. You will need to accept this charge by pressing 1# before being connected with a veterinarian.
Please note that VetChat is a triage-only service. Whether or not your pet is referred to our clinic for emergency care, the $59 NZD fee still applies and is collected by Tasman Vets. If emergency care is deemed necessary, VetChat will contact our on-call veterinarian, who will meet you at the clinic as required.
This system enables our veterinary and nursing team to rest during closed hours, helping to prevent burnout and ensure the ongoing well-being of our staff. We sincerely thank you for your understanding and for supporting a sustainable work-life balance for our team.
Dispensing of medications
We carry a wide range of medications to ensure we can provide the best possible treatment for our patients. Should you wish to have your pet’s prescription filled at an external pharmacy, a prescription fee will apply. This fee covers the veterinarian’s time to review your pet’s medical history and issue an external prescription.
For pets on long-term medication, regular check-ups are legally required to ensure your pet’s ongoing health and to safely continue treatment. In most cases, we will recommend check-ups every 6 months. However, for certain conditions, more frequent reviews may be necessary, typically every 3 months.
Missed appointments
If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, we kindly ask that you notify us as early as possible. Please be aware that a fee may apply for appointments that are missed or cancelled without sufficient notice.
Complaints
We sincerely hope you are always satisfied with the care and service you receive from us. However, if you do have any concerns or wish to raise a complaint, please contact our Practice Manager in the first instance. They will be happy to assist you and guide you through our complaints process.
